Growing your grays gracefully

Freaking out? If you’ve noticed more gray hairs lately–or your first one–don’t panic. Before you decide to dye your hair and hide them, consider embracing them.

Gray hair has undergone a facelift. Contrary to a lot of trends we’ve seen recently like Zoom-induced plastic surgery, many people are switching their tone on silver strands. Hold your judgement–we’re here to change your mind about going gray.

REDEFINING GRAY HAIR AND AGING

While there are still countless ads promoting dye and gray hair touch up products, the tide is changing.

No longer is it associated with dowdiness, as celebrities like the Internet’s favourite pastry chef and Stacey London can attest.

There’s been a burgeoning movement of people of all ages, but notably also people in their 20s and 30s, to embrace their gray hair. For great inspiration on living your best gray-haired life, head to grombre’s Instagram page for a visual representation of the many shades of gray and the people who’re wearing it well.

STOP DYEING

Once you’ve changed your internal dialogue on what it means to have gray hair, the second thing to do is to embrace your gray hairs. Stop disguising them.

Throw out the boxed dye or cancel that salon appointment.

Embracing your new colour can be difficult, but there are many upshots. Topping up your box dye or going it for root touchups at the hairdresser can be a costly, time sucking activity.

Consider growing them out–and if you’re not convinced, do an experiment. Do a 30-day challenge to hold off the dye and see how you feel. Beyond any initial misgivings, there might be a sense of freedom or relief from not having to do any more maintenance!

HIGHLIGHT, DON'T HIDE

Have your gray hair take centre stage. Use the Groom Me Hair-Cutting Kit to shape gray hair and highlight emerging gray sections with face-framing layers. You may find that going gray might call for a more styled cut or more frequent trims. Do them by yourself easily with our cutting shears and thinning shears, included in our kit!

Style front sections with the Cordless Convertible Curling Iron/Wand or Cordless Flat Iron/Styler Plus+ WWC. Both our cordless curling tools are made of titanium, which retains heat quickly and efficiently. In addition, they can both be adjusted easily to a maximum temperature of 450ºF, which means that there’s a temperature for everyone. Once you know your perfect temperature, keep your tools on just long enough for your style to set to a maximum of 10 seconds. It’s even more important for gray hair to have a sleek style–and our tools can make you stylish, not fried and frizzy!

Curled hair and straight hair look equally striking on gray hair. Finish your style with Hold Me Down Firm Hold Hair Spray to keep things looking polished. And use our Give Me Life Volumizing Dry Shampoo to gently revive curls and waves.

What’s your stance on gray hair? Has it shifted recently? We’d love to continue this conversation over on our Facebook page or via Instagram!
