What's the best buy? Curling iron vs. curling wand

Waffling on your next curling tool? It can be a process wading through wands and irons and filtering every choice by your budget, by the material and by the barrel.

We’re biased, but our Belisa by Lunata cordless tools are affordable, travel-friendly and high-performing!

Whether you choose our Cordless Curling Iron With Clip or Cordless Curling Wand, there is no wrong choice! Both have 1-inch barrels and are great to use on many hair types and hair lengths.

If you’re narrowing your choice between a curling iron and a curling wand, here are a few things to keep in mind.

REVIEW THE STYLES YOU LOVE

Get the most bang for your buck by buying the curling tool that you will use the most. The clip in our Cordless Curling Iron With Clip will give you precise hairstyles. If you like your curls and waves to look polished and “done”, this is the tool for you!

Cordless Curling Iron

If your aesthetic is more relaxed, our Cordless Curling Wand is the perfect tool. The uniform one-inch barrel will give you a consistent curl, but the lack of a clip will give you an undone look.

STYLING WITH THE CORDLESS CURLING IRON WITH CLIP

Spiral curls–those full, traditional curls–are probably the style that’s most associated with a curling iron. Flat wrap or twist sections before you wind them on the iron and clamp the ends.

Ribbon curls can be done by flat wrapping sections onto the curling iron. Clip the ends as you wrap and release the curls for polished curls. Ribbon curls pop with a wider width. Depending on the length of your hair, try for sections that are 3/4-inch or 1-inch at a minimum.

STYLING WITH THE CORDLESS CURLING WAND

Generally, wand styles are going to be a bit more casual and loose. Since the wand is without a clip, tension is literally in your hands.

Missing the beach? Beach waves are a classic wand style. Take 1-inch sections and twist them along the titanium barrel and keep the tension loose–not have hair so tightly wound on the barrel.

For safety reasons–and for a natural beach wave–leave the ends uncurled by a half-inch to an inch. Leave curls to cool and go in and break up waves, muss up your hair and go in with texture spray to the roots for a finishing touch.

A barely curled look is easiest with a curling wand. Use your Cordless Curling Wand to loosely wind sections around the barrel with very little tension.

BUY BOTH

If you really can’t decide, both curling tools are great buys and while each tool can give several different styles–having the Cordless Curling Iron With Clip and the Cordless Curling Wand can give you more versatility.
