Humidity Fighting Hair Tips

Summer is here, which means your hair care routine might need some tweaks. While we’re all for beach weather and all the fun that comes with it, we’re not particularly fond of the effects humidity has on our hair. Put simply, our hair has a mind of its own when hot and humid air makes an appearance.

In the summer, when humidity is at an all time high, your hair will absorb moisture from the air, which leads to the swelling of your hair. Depending on your hair type, you can be left with puffy and frizzy locks, that would never pass of as beach waves.

In order to combat the effects of summer on your hair, you need to treat your hair and your scalp, which is why we’re here to give you a rundown of our favourite humidity fighting hair tips to keep your hair game on point all season long.

Washing

Start your anti-humidity hair routine in the shower with a shampoo and conditioner that possess anti-frizz properties. Our summer favourites are Sun Bum’s Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner, as it helps restore moisture and repair damage all while providing humidity-resistant frizz control.

Also keep in mind that you should avoid over washing your hair during the summer as excessive washing can strip your hair of its natural oils and moisture, which can lead to dry and frizzy hair.

Styling

When it comes to styling your hair during the summer, wavy beach-inspired styles take the focus away from the humidity because they look more natural. And while a day at the beach will leave you with sun-kissed and salt-strewn, textured locks, most of us don’t actually spend every day at the beach during summer. So how does one master this look IRL?

While sea salt and texture sprays are popular products to use, they’ll actually dry your hair out and create even more frizz when humidity strikes. Instead, you can apply a moisturizing styling cream to your hair, like Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day In-Shower Styler. We love this product because you can apply it to your hair while you’re in the shower, then let your hair air dry and you’ll be left with soft, textured waves and volume, which is exactly what we could all use on a humid day.

Drying

To properly combat humidity, you need to remove moisture from your hair. When you get out of the shower, you’re going to want to take a towel and squeeze your wet hair downwards. This will keep the hair cuticle closed and prevent frizz from developing. Another great way to beat frizz is to let your hair air dry, opposed to blow drying, as frequent blow drying sucks moisture from your hair, ultimately leading to frizzy, unruly hair.

Final Touch-Ups

Finally, don’t forget to pack your Lunata Hair touch-up iron/styler in your bag for on the go touch-ups whether you’re at the gym, on the road or even at the beach! Lunata’s touch-up styler emits negative ions, which closes hair cuticles leaving you with frizz-free results.
